This is a very special day

When David and I got married ten years ago, it was not our first marriages and neither of us had made it to 'double digits' in years of marriage. Today, David and I celebrate 10 years of marriage and several more years together as a couple.

I wasn't always certain about David. He had kids, something I did not plan on in my future. Not just one or two, but three of his own and three stepkids. Holy cow! And David had his misgivings about me- I was somewhat of a free-spririted 25 year old who had moved to California on her own and he wasn't sure I'd stick around with a 38 year old. That was in 1997, and despite the ups and downs we have faced, we have faced them together.

Age hasn't mattered, his kids have accepted me and love me, and I them, and we continue to be best friends. We cannot imagine life without each other. In a good way, it has seemed like we have been together forever. Did we both really go through some crappy relationships to find each other or was that just a nightmare?

I believe that we didn't find each other until we were completely ready for each other. In the beginning we argued alot- I was very independent, which kind of threw David for a loop because I always had an opinion for him. I also wasn't exactly domesticated- I didn't cook, and I rarely cleaned. Gee- things haven't changed much, but he has accepted my uniqueness, shall we say.

I love David for so many reasons! The man has a sense of humor and never fails to make me laugh. He is very sensitive and cares about what I need, and sometimes I even call him the wife and me the husband- he is very romantic and mushy...I'm not as mushy as he is. I love him for his crazy ways of playing with Chris (running from one room into the bedroom to jump on the bed, rag-head fights, video games, fishing), and although we have different parenting styles, he is a great Dad. But if I had to pick the most important reason why I love him, it would be because he is still my best friend. We can talk about anything, and no matter what, I know he is there.

David is one of the few 'good' guys left. And today as we celebrate our 10 years of marriage, I am feeling very blessed that I am his wife. I would marry him again in a heartbeat.

The Obituary of Common Sense

Two posts in one day? I must be on break from school!

Obituary printed in the London Times........

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
Why the early bird gets theworm;
Life isn't always fair;
and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

**I will be politically INcorrect when I say this, but the stepbrothers appear to be prominent members of the Democratic Party of the US!**

Babies

A friend recently sent me a picture of his little boy- gosh what a cute baby! The thought occurred to me- why does God let ugly people have so many babies? Good looking people have one or two kids, but ugly people have like 5 or more! Why is that? Darwinism must not have anything to do with beauty as a survival trait. Does that mean ugly people have more survival skills than beautiful people? Obviously beauty is not important to God- the Bible tells us that God looks at our hearts, not our looks. And of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I just wondered why it seems like less attractive people have more babies than attractive people. <>

Chris is tracked off from school this month. It's a good month for a break too- the weather is breaking (although I just heard that we might have flurries on Thurs), things are starting to bloom (and my allergies are kicking in), and April is about the only month when we do not have scorching hot weather- perfect for days at the park, bike rides, hikes, fishing, cruising the lakes-

I also have a break from my teaching courses, so I won't have the stress of Chris being high maintenance (yes, a boy can be high maintenance when he is bored) and trying to read about learning disabilities!

DJ was just here for Spring Break. DJ- my 17 year old wanna be 30 stepson- is graduating high school in a few months. It seems like it was just yesterday that we met- he said, "Hi! I'm DJ! I'm 6!" He was so cute, but man was he a handful when he was young. Always in trouble- wait, he never actually grew out of that. (smile) He is a good kid and I love him dearly. I remember what it is like to be 17 and have the whole world at your fingers- and think that you are an adult and know everything when really you don't have a clue about life yet. He will get there soon enough- why rush it.

So - off for an adventurous day with my boy-
